Sonisphere // 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

Noize has never laboured under any Jacques Cousteau illusions, so it was always unlikely we’d ever get to see the fabled lost city of legend. But Lower Than Atlantis (underground, under the sea?), a pop-rock band (although even this doesn’t describe what they call ‘creative core’) from Watford may well make us reach for the frogman’s outfit once more.

Currently making a huge name for themselves with their stage enthusiasm and front-man Mike Duce’s dry wit, they bounced around with uncontrollable energy, even though the sound wasn’t great and ultimately let them down - no turning it up to 11 here. Having said that, competing with Alice Cooper on the Saturn Stage was also never going to be an easy task, but they did it, and they did it well.  We chanted back their lyrics and the tent, although not completely full, was alive - it finally felt like the festival had began. Noize left pondering that sometimes it’s the smaller tents which make you feel more connected and provide more of those “We were there!” moments. True dat.
